August 2018 Favourites

Welcome to my first monthly favourites! I can't believe it is almost September! Here are my favourites for August divided up into Food, Beauty and Health, and finally Entertainment.   Food Tesco Mixed Berry Helter Skelter and Rowntrees Fruit Pastel Ice Lollies In the recent boiling weather, I became addicted to ice lollies! It's embarrassing really how many I got through, but girls got to do what a girls got to do! My favourites are the Tesco Mixed Berry Helter Skelter with a sweet blackcurrant flavour and at only £1 for a box is a bargain. I also enjoyed eating the Rowntrees Fruit Pastel ice lollies on the layer at a time. I love the zingy flavours especially the citrus flavour. It also brings back happy memories of visiting my grandma and grandpa as a child and spending time in their garden as we always had one as a treat.  Water Infuser Twinning Water In’fuse Pink Lemonade (my review:  https://bit.ly/2wrTgkD ) and recently I have been ...

Food Fridays: Pod

Can you believe it is already Friday again? I feel like this week has just flown by. Maybe that is just the excitement that this weekend is a bank holiday weekend! For today's Food Friday I decided to go to Pod . Pod's, aim is to provide healthy on the go food. I would describe their food as fresh, delicious and super healthy. I have had "food to go" from Pod a couple of times but never taken the time to eat in until today. The decor is very modern and fresh with vines hanging over the door way. The interior was white a green with wooden beams creating a rustic feel. Making it the perfect place to go for a quiet lunch. Today I had the Persian Aubergine and Pomegranate Salad, Lemon and Pistachio Cake and Iced Coffee Cacao. The total price was £12.66. The salad was lovely and fresh, with the pomegranate seeds providing bursts of flavour. The only improvement I would suggest is to cut mint leaves smaller so they are more evenly distrubted. A couple of t...

Day Out: St Ives Cambridgeshire

Hope you all are having a lovely weekend. I am visiting my parents this weekend so decided to take the morning to explore my hometown of St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Not to be mistaken for St Ives in Cornwall. St Ives is a beautiful market town, with lots of history and sights to see which I am going to share with you now. This small town is just a short bus ride away from Cambridge. Here are pictures to give you a taste of this picturesque town.  Right in the centre of town is the Oliver Cromwell Memorial.  See if you can spot The Golden Lion.  No the town centre is complete with a few flower pots.  The Free Church inside there is a cute fairtrade shop and cafe which is a lovely place to have a cup of tea.  Swan memorial on Free Church Passage (down this side of the church).  The classic St Ives Bridge. In the Centre, there is a small church. As you may notice the arches on either side of the bridge are different t...

Food Fridays: By Chloe. Vegan Restaurant.

Happy Friday! Welcome to my second instalment of Food Fridays. Here is last weeks post in case you missed it  https://bit.ly/2MjqSfB. I heard of By Chloe. whilst making coffee in my office, someone from another company was discussing how amazing it was. Once I heard it was vegan my ears pricked up. I do enjoy eating vegan food as I don't like red meat or chicken and try to reduce my dairy intake. I looked at the website and was instantly hungry just looking at all the amazing options. From home comforts such as Mac and Cheese, British Classics such as Fish and Chips, Salads and best of all, sweet treats including cookies and cupcakes! All vegan and all plant-based, amazing! There are only two in the UK, one in Covent Garden and one in Tower Bridge. Luckily for me, my office is near Covent Garden so I decided to treat myself. I chose to have Mac and Cheese (gluten-free) and Chocolate Cupcake with a Vanilla Icing (also gluten-free!). The total cost was £12.50 (only £10:50 if ...

Favourite Teas August 2018

What is nicer than sitting down after a long day with a cup of tea and a sweet treat? (perhaps a Booja-Booja truffle! see review here: https://bit.ly/2vw8BBg ). Here are my top five favourite teas at the moment. Irish Breakfast- Barry's Tea I buy this Irish tea from the world foods section of my supermarket. For years I didn't drink breakfast tea as to me it tasted like dishwater. How very un-British of me! That was until earlier this year when I tried Barry's Tea. Barry's tea tastes stronger than other breakfast teas I have tried and it has a sweet yet earthy taste. The perfect drink for a quiet evening in. Bedtime Infusion- Sainsbury's  I brought this tea when I had trouble sleeping with my anxiety. The tea itself tastes like sweet camomile and smells like lavender. The whole experience of drinking this tea very calming and is the perfect way to wind down after a busy day or went I feel on edge. Pure Peppermint- Twinings Peppermint tea is...

Product Review: Schär Gluten Free Ravioli con ricotta e spinaci

I will apologise now in case this post makes you extremely hungry! When I was diagnosed as gluten intolerant one of the main foods I knew I would miss was Ravioli. As a child, I had a grown up eating ravioli with my family, usually on a Friday as it is quick and easy to cook after a long week. We would all chat about our week, the good and the bad as well as our plans for the weekend ahead! Ravioli reminds me of those family meals so has always been a comfort food for me. As well as tasting delicious! All my prayers had been answered when Schär brought out their gluten-free ravioli. I squealed in excitement when I saw it!  It cooks in just two minutes and has the same texture as normal Ravioli. The filling is creamy and has a subtle taste of spinach.  I normally have mine topped with vegan cheese. It is the perfect pick me up at the end of a long day! What is your favourite gluten-free food? Love, E. x

Day Out: A Walk Round Covent Garden

Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday! This morning I decided to take a stroll round Covent Garden and up to Tottenham Court Road. The weather was not as sunny as yesterday but thankfully, there was only light rain. Covent Garden always feels like taking a step back in time with the old stunning architecture and cobbled streets. The Jubilee Market is all indoors (great for poor weather) and filled with handmade treasures! There was so much beautiful jewellery, paintings, sculptures and pottery. I have made a mental note to go back there for Christmas presents! I then stopped for breakfast at Starbucks to have Peach Lemonade Ice Tea and Five Grain Oatmeal which is delicious! After I finished in Covent Garden I walked up to Tottenham Court Road to go to Primark for bedding (exciting I know!). On the way, I walked past an antique bookshop which I would have loved to have gone in but sadly it is was closed! I also stopped to take pictures of the Harry...

Food Friday's LSE Garrick Cafe

Every Friday, I treat myself to lunch out. Not only do I get to explore different places to eat but also it's nice to get outside on my lunch break.  So, I wanted to do a weekly post about where I eat and what I eat.  Today I went to eat at LSE Garrick Café. I have gone here a few times as it is often quieter than other parts cafes in London. LSE Garrick cafe as you would suspect is popular with students but is open to the general public. They offer delicious salads, gluten free cakes, cakes, pastries and teas. The café has large windows which not only make the place light and airy but also makes the perfect spot for people watching! A guilty pleasure of mine. I had planned to walk around afterwards but sadly it was chucking it down with rain. Today I had a: Sweet Chilli Salmon Salad, Gluten Free Bakewell Cake Slice and a Peppermint tea.  Costs: £8:20 Where is your favourite place to eat and what do you have?  Love,  E.x
